Human Resources Outlook, 2014 to 2019 Health Informatics and Health Information Management

This study was undertaken for a consortium of stakeholders including:

  • Canada Health Infoway (Infoway)
  • Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA)
  • Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI)
  • COACH: Canada’s Health Informatics Association
  • Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC)
  • Information Technology Association of Canada (ITAC) – Health

The study updates an earlier human resources forecast that covered the period 2009 to 2014.  This study developed a model for projecting human resources and skills needs in health informatics and health information management professions.  Governments and health sectors across Canada are committed to using e-health technologies to improve productivity and service delivery.  Human resources and skills shortages are a major constraint on the implementation and optimization of these investments.  The 2014 report focused on the need to deepen skills in the sector to achieve greater returns from the most recent wave of investment in e-health technologies.  Copies of the study are available through the stakeholders:
