Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR) and labour market information

  |  in Labour Market Models & Forecasts, Recent Projects

MiHR started a new three year mandate to provide labour market information (LMI) to the mining industry. The Sector Initiatives Program at Employment and SocialDevelopment Canada (ESDC) provided funding to support a detailed plan that includes new forecasting capabilities, LMI products and an extended outreach to include jobseekers and other groups.

Prism Economics prepared a report to help to launch the new mandate and next generation of mining LMI, providing a review and strategic analysis of MiHR’s system, user needs and the approaches adopted by other LMI providers. Findings are summarized in an assessment of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) for the MiHR system.

To complete the review and SWOT process, Prism Economics and Analysis meet with MiHR staff and conduct phone interviews to review the current system, conduct interviews with fifteen LMI users, reviewed ten alternative LMI systems provided to related industries, assessed current trends and future circumstances in user needs and provider capabilities and the capacity to enhance the LMI systems, and prepared reports summarizing findings and making recommendations.
